Get to Know Your Roommate at 67 Livingston!

As part of the 67 Livingston Street residence's student life programs a "Roommate Trivia" game show was held at the residence. This program was a great way to promote positive roommate relationships and build community between the students by sharing information with one another that they might not have known before the challenge.

Special Orientation for Fashion Design Students

Amanda Lovell and Vikki Nulman did a fantastic job in facilitating the first attempt at a two day Fashion Orientation.

The highlight experience at the end of the first day was the students’ creation of “dresses,” from Art Institute of New York City branded materials.

Groups of six students worked for one hour on their creations. The top four dresses received awards, and were displayed in the gallery. On day two, there was an awards reception. Later, Fashion Design students got an introduction to the sewing labs, sketching and concept boards, while Fashion Merchandising and Marketing students toured SoHo, and receive an introduction to trend forecasting and the creation of trend boards.

According to Vikki, “there is a whole lot of bonding going on too, an important point of the orientation session.”

The group picture shows Amanda Lovell addressing the group.

The first photo, the "Starbucks" entry, came in at number one.

Take a Look at the Cage!

The space has been expanded (thank you Hugie Richichi), and the walls are now beautifully painted. VP student Chris Conaway, a professional painter, is working with Cage Manager Dave Maxime. The professionalism shows so check out their work!

Creative Students Liven the Lounge!

Under the expert direction of Graphic Design instructor Amy Sinclair, twelve students have made the Student Lounge a work of art! Participating students include:

Tyrell James
Laurence Bratton
Brian Ramsay
Chris Intriago
Henry Jimenez
Dave Rodriguez
Jimmy Garcia
Mike Flynn
Jeffrey Cabrera
Julissa Rodriguez
Milton Vivas

According to Amy, "I facilitated the project but my interest was in giving the students as much creative freedom as possible. The approach was freestyle spontaneous art making. Each artist worked independently and tried to bring their different styles and ideas together as they worked." Go check out the fifth floor lounge to view the great job!

New Student Housing Orientation

Congressman on Our Side!

Brooklyn Congressman Edolphus Towns (the 67 Livingston district) visited our school on a fact-finding mission concerning the proposed Gainful Employment rule. He seemed impressed by what he saw, and later wrote a piece in The Hill in support of career colleges.

Of the Department of Education’s rationale for the proposed Gainful Employment rule he says, “I agreed with this line of reasoning early on and initially supported the rule. However, after visiting several career college campuses and hearing stories of young people who believed these colleges afforded them their only chance to improve their knowledge and skills and get a better job, I decided we needed to take another look at the gainful employment rule.”
