CREATING TOMORROW ... ONE SIGN AT A TIME

Ai New York City part-time faculty member Marcos Chavez worked with his graphic design students at to create a guerrilla wayfinding / information hacking project for his Graphic Symbolism class.

Students worked together to manipulate signage throughout the school creating surprising and inspiring messages. Students used altered symbols, icons and typography to create witty replacements to the common signage within Ai New York City's interior.

A sampling of the signage appears below.  Great job all!

DO SOMETHING SPECIAL - VOLUNTEER!

As part of Education Management Corporation's community service initiatives, Ai New York City invites all staff, faculty and students to do something that gives back to their respective communities. The possibilities are endless and one suggestion on how you can do this appears below:

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will be hosting their annual "Purple Stride New York City 2013", a 5K run/walk race on Saturday, April 20 at Riverside Park in Manhattan (near 108th Street).  They are urgently in need of volunteers to set-up, monitor pre-race and in-race stations as well as cleanup after the race.  The race is a rundraising and awareness event that is managed entirely by local volunteers like you!

Pancreatic Cancer has the highest mortality rate of all cancers and is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, yet only receives two percent of the federal cancer research budget.

For more information and to register as a volunteer go to http://www.purplestride.org/newyorkcity/ and click on "REGISTER", then "CLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE NOW".  Once you accept the waiver Select "JOIN AS AN INDIVIDUAL", fill out your contact information and select "VOLUNTEER: NO FEE" .  You will receive an e-mail confirmation where you follow the prompts on how to select the area where you prefer to volunteer.

So what are you waiting for?  Do something good for your community ... volunteer!
