AI NEW YORK CITY FACULTY MEMBER OPEN STUDIO

Ai New York City faculty member SuZen will be holding an open studio located at Westbeth Artists Housing on Saturday March 9 from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.  The open studio is part of The Armory Show Arts Week organized by High Line Open Studios.  More than 49 other artists in the West Chelsea Arts District will also be opening their studios to the public on that day. 

This is the first year that Westbeth Artists Housing has joined the ranks and SuZen along with other Westbeth artists will be opening their studios to the public.  For more information visit www.highlineopenstudios.org.

STUDENT HEALTH FAIR TOMORROW!



The Ai New York City Student Affairs Department will be hosting a student health fair tomorrow (Thursday), February 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Gallery.  The fair will feature the following activities/screenings:
  • Chair massages
  • Yoga
  • Martial Arts
  • Self-Defense
  • Neck & Back Screening
  • Blood Pressure Screening
  • Dental Screening
  • Physical Therapy
  • Podiatry
  • Body Fat Screening
  • Nutrition and more!
There will also be snacks served and a raffle drawing will be held.

AI NEW YORK CITY FACULTY MEMBER IN GROUP SHOW

Ai New York City faculty member William Gates' architectural work is currently featured in a group show entitled "Face to Face" at New York Institute of Technology's Gallery 61 on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The show opened on February 7 and will conclude this Thursday, February 28.  

The gallery is located at 16 West 61st Street and viewing hours are Monday - Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Click on the link below for more information.

PART-TIME JOB FAIR FOR AI NEW YORK CITY STUDENTS



Need a part-time job? 

If you do, then you will need to get yourself to Ai New York City's Gallery on Wednesday, February 27, where representatives from Raymor & Flanagan, Banana Republic, Express, M&M World and other employers will be on site taking applications and conducting interviews.  The event starts at 12:15 p.m. and will end at 2:15 p.m.  So mark your calendars and come on in!

STUDENTS SELECTED FOR PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

For the past year Ai New York City has been awarding an additional form of institutional aid every quarter, called the Presidential Scholarship. Recipients receive the award for three quarters, and it is based on merit, as measured by: GPA, which must be 3.50 or higher; attendance; faculty letters of recommendation; involvement in the community; an essay; and other criteria.

The winners of the Presidential Scholarships this quarter are:

  • Charles Brooks, from the Digital Film program
  • Sharon Gardell, an Interior Design student
  • Raakhee Khanna, from Fashion Design
  • Brittany Mahoney, a Fashion Marketing and Merchandising student
  • Julie Manso, another Digital Film student
  • Theresa Montalvo, also in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising.
Congratulations to the students who won, and we urge the other applicants to apply again for next quarter.

MARCIA LLOYD PHOTOS FEATURED AT UPCOMING EXHIBITION

Ai New York City faculty member Marcia Lloyd will be exhibiting two of her photographs at an upcoming exhibition.  The two-part exhibition, entitled "It's a Thin Line Between Love and Hate" opens this evening with the "Love" portion of the exhibition at United Photo Industries located on Front Street in Brooklyn. 

Marcia's photos will be featured as part of the "Hate" portion of the exhibit, which opens on February 14.  Please click on the following link for more information and directions.

HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS' SHOW - APRIL

In April Ai New York City will be sponsoring an exhibition of High School art teachers from the greater New York City area entitled, What Those Who Teach Can Do. This is an opportunity for High School art teachers to participate in a group show here at the Ai New York City gallery and will draw on the success of last year’s show which featured the work of 18 local High School art teachers.
