Our street banners appear a couple of times in the Jennifer Lopez film, "The Back-up Plan."

Pedro Lima says, "I jumped out of my seat when I saw the movie, I had no idea they were filming in our backyard. This goes to show my head is buried in the sand, or the drafting table when I'm at school. I was proud and excited to see it."

Department Chair for Interior Design!

We are so fortunate that Anthony Caradonna is the Department Chair for Interior Design. With an extensive background in design, design education and academic administration, he is uniquely qualified for the position.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute and his master’s degree in Architecture from Harvard University. He has taught for the last 17 years and for seven of those years was the Chair of the undergraduate Architecture program at Pratt Institute.

Anthony’s professional work is extensive; he has worked on residential and commercial projects from the US to Italy. His work has been featured in Interior Design Magazine, Elle Décor, FX Magazine, Architectural Record, New York Magazine and Metropolitan Home. He is an AIA Medal of Merit recipient as well as a Venice Biennale Finalist

According to Anthony, “I am extremely thankful for this opportunity to serve as Chair of the Interior Design department. I am honored to be working with this talented and committed team of faculty, administrators and students to maintain and enhance the quality of this program and the legacy of excellence it has achieved. I look forward to working collaboratively to formulate shared goals for the department’s future growth, and the advancement of its graduates and faculty. I am committed to supporting and enabling this department and everyone associated with it, to achieve the highest possible levels of academic and professional success and excellence.”

Alpha Channel a Hit!

On Friday evening, September 10, the best student films of the year were shown at the Tribeca Cinemas. The quality of the work was outstanding. The audience of students, faculty, friends and family were all extremely proud of the students' accomplishments.

During the first half, a juried selection of thirteen top student films was screened. After an intermission, seven Thesis Films of graduating students were shown.

Certificates were awarded by the Digital Filmmaking faculty.

According to Art Institute of New York City President Tad Graham-Handley, “I was very impressed by the films presented, not only for their creativity but also for the high level of technical skill they demonstrated. My congratulations to the students, and to the faculty who prepared them to produce such fine quality work.”

District Director for Congressman Visits AiNYC

On September 2, Celine Mizrahi, District Director for U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler visited the school. Tad Graham-Handley and Dave Moughalian discussed our concerns about the impact on our students of the proposed Gainful Employment rule.

Dave conducted one of his masterful tours, showing Ms. Mizrahi some of the outstanding work our students are producing, as well as introducing her to some impressive members of the faculty. Ms. Mizrahi will apprise the Congressman of her impressions of the school, and its role in educating a diverse student body.

Welcome Reception for Tad Graham-Handley

On Friday, September 3, faculty and staff were invited to a welcoming reception for our new President. After Camille Bateman introduced him, Tad said a few words about how glad he was to be here, and the respect he has had for EDMC over the years. Tad has many years experience as a college President, and everyone already feels very comfortable with him.

New President at AiNYC!

Tad Graham-Handley officially became our new President as of August 30, 2010. Tad comes to us with more than twenty years of Campus President experience and strong skills in higher education administration.
Tad is ready to take AiNYC to the next level, including helping us move forward to become a baccalaureate degree-granting college, as was his previous institution.
Tad will be a hands-on President, who will care about the success of each student at our school.
“I am tremendously excited to be part of the Art Institute of New York City. From my first visit I could sense the passion of the students and the dedication and professionalism of the faculty and staff,” he says.

Fashion Merchandising & Marketing Program Launched!

The entire school is excited about the new program in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing being offered beginning in October.

The Fashion Design program at The Art Institute of New York City has long been the most popular program offered at the school. Now it is joined by Fashion Merchandising & Marketing, created for prospective students who love fashion, but don’t have an interest in such subjects as garment construction and patternmaking.

This program is part design and part management, focusing on the business side of the industry. It begins with an intensive foundation in fashion; then it’s on to such exciting topics as Trend Forecasting, the History of Costume, the Sociology of Dress & Consumer Behavior, Fashion Design Concepts and Specialty Markets, and Branding.

Students will be in the right place to get an inside view of the world of fashion merchandising and marketing in the heart of New York City.
