Messages of sustainability, romance and fashion are currently on display in the lobby of the InterContental New York Barclay hotel from February 12 through February 18 in honor of Valentine's Day.
Fashion Department students from Ai New York City were invited by the InterContinental to showcase their own sustainable designs and created bridal and romantic dresses from flowers, recycled and discarded materials, in keeping with the hotel's extensive sustainability program. There are three gowns and dresses on display, created from such items as tissue, plastic, dried roses, iridescent paper and tape. Photos of three of the entries appear below and the designs were created by Christian Acosta Martinez who designed a flirty red dress, Wendy Calderone and Joshuan Aponte both designed the striking wedding dresses. Another beautiful floral dress on display was a collaboration by Vikki Nulman, Ai New York City's Assistant Fashion Department Chair and Laura Moore, Ai New York City fashion department faculty.
The InterContinental New York Barclay is located at 111 East 48th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues.
Congratulations to everyone ... great work!
