Origami Anyone?


Please come to a workshop (part of the Hope for Japan initiative) on the art of folding Origami cranes. This is also a fundraiser for Japan earthquake/tsunami victims and proceeds will be sent to the Japan Society for this purpose.


The event takes place today (March 29) at noon in the Gallery. All welcome!

IAN FISCHER DOES IT AGAIN!

Ai New York City Digital Film instructor Ian Fischer has added yet another award to his already full shelf of accolades. This one is the Pioneer award for best editing from the Long Island Film Festival. The film, Magritte Moment centers around a frustrated artist who finds his muse through the work of Belgian surrealist painter, Rene Magritte. Mr. Fischer will be honored at an awards ceremony, which will be held at The Scully Estate, (now Seatuck, a wildlife preserve) on May 14, 2011 from 7: pm – 11:00 pm in the estate’s ballroom. The address is 550 South Bay Ave. Islip, NY 11751. For anyone wanting to attend, the fee is $25.00 per person. Dress casual. Make checks payable to Long Island Film Festival 102 N. WANT TO PROMOTE YOUR SHORT FILM? READ ON!

Award-winning Digital Filmmaking instructor Jason Moore has just published a book on promoting yourself in the film industry through distribution. Entitled "Short Film Distribution" (published by Mercury Learning and Information), the book covers the elements of utilizing social networking to self-promote, entering film festivals, netotiation with broadcast distributors, understaning outlets and distributing alternative work. The book is a must-read for all aspiring filmmakers.

READY FOR OUR CLOSE UP PART TWO

The events continue at Ai New York City. From today through Thursday (March 21-24), Career Services will be hosting the quarterly student Portfolio Reviews. The event begins this evening with the Alpha Channel (see previous post) and ends with a Fashion Design review on Thursday, March 24. Other shows include:

  • Tuesday, March 22 - Graphic Design/WDIM
  • Wednesday (March 23) - Interior Design and
  • Thursday (March 24), Fashion Design
This is a great opportunity for our students to show their work to prospective employers and for the campus community to come out and support our students.

With the exception of the Alpha Channel, all other events will take place in the Ai New York City Gallery at 5:30 p.m.

Tonight Ai New York City Digital Filmmaking students present their work at the Alpha Channel, which takes place at the 92Y Tribeca at 200 Hudson Street. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Please come out and support your school and see some great film in the process!
