POSED – Senior Collection Fashion Show Wows the Audience!

On June 10, 26 graduating seniors showed their final collections at a stunning fashion show staged by Fashion Show Production instructor Scott French.

The collections were highly creative, with inspirations as varied as English Cathedrals, Jacqueline Kenndy Onassis, colors of the desert, Tokyo architecture, Thailand culture, Medieval Armor, and Neda, a heroine in Iran’s freedom struggle. Professional models showed the garments to full advantage, and professional staging, lights and pulsating sound added to the experience. Scott French extended special thanks to Lyn Caponera, Larissa Losilevich and the entire Fashion Design faculty for their help and support.

The prize for Most Marketable collection went to Mary Chhuon. Galyn Mitas won both the Most Creative and Best Overall Collection prize.

Outstanding Students EarnTuition Scholarships!

Jennifer Hahn, Digital Filmmaking student, and Raffaella Ciavatta from Graphic Design, are each recipients of the Education Foundation $5,000 tuition scholarships for current AiNYC students. The scholarships were awarded on the basis of academic achievement, instructor recommendations, and an essay.

Jennifer and Raffaella have a cumulative GPA of 4.0. Jennifer's glowing recommendaion was written by Jason Moore; Raffaella's by Krista Svalbonas.

We are proud to have such outstanding students represent our school.

Once again, last night’s Alpha Channel was a success! Instructor Ross Williams created the event celebrating the scope and talent of the Video Production and Digital Filmmaking students. A healthy crowd packed the seats and filled the aisles to get a glimpse of the best videos created this spring quarter. The program opened with selected trailers from this quarter’s Non-Linear Editing class. The trailers were for the thesis projects that will be completed next quarter. Then the program got rolling with the following titles: Blind Date, Run, You're a Drag, Fetish, Couture Boy, Message in a Bottle, Night Light, Slapdash, Goobed Medicine and Variations. Subjects ranging from horrible blind dates to rock music videos created a diverse selection. In case you missed it, a copy of the program will be playing on the 2nd floor screen, outside of the A/V Cage.”

"Wonder........"

There is a multi-program effort happening at AiNYC.

Digital Filmmaking instructors Ian Fischer, Ross Williams and George Larkins are involved with a film entitled “Wonder Project.” It is an experimental feature film with nine directors creating nine short films using the exact same dialogue (which was written by filmmaker Dutch Doscher.) “Wonder Project” had its world wide premiere at Artsfest film festival in Harrisburg, PA. This marks over 100 film festivals at which Ian Fischer’s work has been screened.

Ross Williams was the composer and sound designer. George Larkins created the opening title sequence.

Student Broygue Fleurimon from Graphic Design instructor Soosan Silanee’s Design Production Team class was chosen to develop the official movie poster and DVD design.

Fashion Show Preparation

Posed, the Senior Collection Fashion Show is scheduled for June 10. Instructor Scott French's Fashion show Production class is busily preparing the major show of the year.

On June 3, a list of outstanding judges participated in evaluating the collections. Along with Scott, the versatile Len Carter is shown. Student Zina Walcott is in charge of tickets; student Cherise Broadbelt is also at the desk.

Bake Sale for Autism

Student Frances Gutierrez has been personally touched by autism, as has instructor John Gilmore.

Frances organized an abundant bake sale to raise funds. Many tempting treats, most homemade, produced a large crowd around the table. Supply Store Manager Larry Gilbert shows his support!

Digital Filmmaking Instructor's Achievement!

Susi Graf has been working on a film for over seven years. This "labor of love" is finally having its premiers on June 3 in New York, and later in June in San Francisco.

The story concerns transgendered youth, but the film's theme is that everyone needs to find their place in the world. More information can be found at lostinthecrowd.net, and in clips on YouTube.

A Fun Night at Slates Billiards!

On Thursday, May 19, a Student Appreciation event was held at Slates Billiards. About 50 students and some staff members had a great time shooting pool, playing ping pong and foozball, and partaking of a buffet dinner.
