EUROPEAN VACATION - AI NEW YORK CITY STYLE!
Ai New York City Gen. Ed. Instructor John Bandman, recently led a group of students on a 10-day European vacation. Conducted during summer break, the itinerary included visits to Paris, Amsterdam and London.
The group, which included fellow instructor John Miller, enjoyed city tours, museum visits, excursions to places of cultural interest, as well as combined escorted and individual opportunities to enjoy shopping, food/beverage, and sightseeing that each country had to offer. In addition to organized group activities, there was also personal free time for the students to explore the wonders of these European capitals in their own way.

GOT TYPE?
Ai New York City Graphic Design faculty Marcos Chavez worked with his GD112 Typography 1 class teaching them not only the fundamentals of typography but also inspired his class to make a series of experimental typefaces using some unconventional materials . Students were asked to create the following installations:
Marcos Chavez - Typography 1 Instructor and last but certainly not least ... the GD112 Typography I Students!

Kevin Cole
Pedro Cotto
Michelle Gonzalez
Juan Jimenez

- What? Students were asked to create the word 'what?' from the five classic typefaces (Garamond, Baskerville, Bodoni, Century and Helvetica). They manipulated the appearance of the word through folding and curving the paper. The fruits of their labors were brought together in a large wall installation.
- Dirty Type - Students used dirt to create a large version of the Baskerville Italic. Their work was then installed in a 7th Floor corridor.
- Condom Typography - Students worked in three teams to create an original alphabet from packaged, newly opened and blown up condoms.
- Helvetible - Students worked as a class to create a full alphabet out of various foods (one food item per letter) using Helvetica Bold and the foundation for the letters.
- Hell-vetica - Students created illustrated type that gave the Swiss face a "hellish" spin.
